Maddox brought a wealth of knowledge and inspiration to the project, having come off of "When the Levees Broke," with Spike Lee. His sensitivity to emotional drivers via lighting was great. See, one of the mandates from Fred was that while this is a stage play, it is never to feel like a typical stage lit production -- flat and bright.
We approached this film using classic film stage angles, textures, depths of field and lighting fx.
